The Best Part Of The Ski Holiday? - Apres Ski!

One of the very best parts of any skiing holiday is the Apres ski. This is the skiing equivalent of golf’s 19th hole and involves food, drink and good entertainment when the skiing is over. There is also a sense that the term is applied to those whose interest in skiing is geared more to the fashion and entertainment rather than the skiing itself. When looking for a good ski deal, it is worth checking out the aprs ski at your chosen resort because you really wouldn’t want to miss out on this.

What you wear for your apres ski is important, although some skiers do appear in the outfits they have been wearing all day and their skiing boots, this is not really the thing to do. The ideal clothes to wear are what you would normally wear for an evening out, although remember that it will be cold. Layering is a good idea because you can remove layers as you start to warm up in the restaurant or bar. Boots are very important because of the terrain but ski boots should definitely not be part of the outfit.

Different resorts have different aprs ski activities aimed at many different age groups. There are concerts, party nights, restaurants serving excellent food (although sometimes quite expensive), bars and clubs - possibly even a few celebrities with their attendant paparazzi. For those looking for a quieter time there are smaller cafes and restaurants available.

For those people with children there are apres ski facilities for children at some resorts that include play zones specially designed for the younger generation and some even have baby sitting services, making it possible for mum and dad to enjoy some time on their own or enjoy the entertainment that is available.

So, make time for the Apres Ski after a long day on the slopes. It really is a fantastic part of the holiday and something to be treasured.

Mammoth Lakes Sees Visitors Return With Deals

Tucked away in the Eastern Sierra is the outdoor paradise of Mammoth Lakes, CA. It has a great reputation with Southern Californians as a close getaway offering a variety of outdoor activities. Part of its popularity was due to the abundance of cheap Mammoth vacation options and good value as a holiday destination. Although, investments and influences by large corporations changed the culture of Mammoth and it reputation as a value vacation location.

Mammoth Lakes was built on the reputation of cheap lodging and plentiful outdoor activities. It used to have numerous options for budget accommodations all around town. Part of Mammoth’s attraction was the value it offered as a vacation destination for nearby Southern Californians.

In 1996, Intrawest purchased a 33 percent share of the Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, which included Mammoth Mountain and June Mountain, in Mammoth Lakes, California. Along with that purchase came a wave of new development and real estate speculation. Mammoth was to become a destination resort and not just a weekend getaway for Southern Californians. Cheap Mammoth hotels were bulldozed to make for ritzier hotels and condominium projects. In addition, “The Village” was built to serve as a high end tourist hub for dining, nightlife and accommodations.

In 2005, Starwood Capital purchased an interest in Mammoth Mountain Ski Area and speculation of luxury level pricing ramped up even more. However, the subsequent real estate crash and recession has tempered the notion that Mammoth had become a playground for the rich. Now happy hours and hotel deals abound. Merchants, real estate developers and others that rely on tourism have rediscovered the importance of delivering vacation values at prices people can afford.

Although Mammoth Lakes has established itself beyond just Southern Californians, it is finding that offering some value to vacationers goes a long way in attracting them. Southern Californians are following the deals and Mammoth Lakes is once again as popular as ever.
