Author's Introduction by Aekta Jerath
Lets forget our accomplished poet for a while; that
he is the General Manager of one of the largest newspaper websites in the world. That this
portal gets over 50 million page views every month. That his personal website gets another
ten thousand. That his poem I Renounce Religion was published on almost every
news site after the Gujarat riots in India in March 2002, and won international acclaim
after being singled out for honour at a meeting of the United Evangelical Missions, in
April 2002 at Wuppertal. That he had won the M.M. Bhalla Poetry Prize at St.
Stephens College during his college years, and topped the University in the
year of his graduation. Yes, lets forget who Sanjay Trehan is. And lets
instead focus on his poems with a fresh perspective, open and unbiased.
The compositions in this book are divided into 3 sections, representing different stages
of the poets life. This lends an autobiographical note to the collection, not as
much as a chronology of events, but rather as a mental, spiritual and emotional journey
that his life has taken. Like any human existence, there are highs and lows, lessons and
disillusionments, joy and pain. But what makes these poems special is the insight they
reveal, and the moral and intellectual challenges they present to the reader.
